I just found the Cass City Cinema Tribe listing in the photos section, but I see that they do not have a listing in the discussion section. I was not part of that group, but I knew several of them. Marie Lemenu was part of the Cass City Cinema Tribe, and I used to work with her at the WSU Bookstore along with Judy Gibson. I don't believe Judy was with Cass City Cinema, but she sold Spark newletters outside on show nights. I have kind of lost track of Judy, but have been in occasional contact with Marie--usually in the context of Bookstore Reunions. I noticed Marie in a few of the photos from the Trucker's Reunion. I'll bet she has lots of background material and probably photos from the Cass City Cinema days. Also, I know she was always friends with Bernadette. By the way, I'm fairly sure that the correct spelling of Bernadette's last name is Maruszewski.

I'm looking for any information about Cass City Cinema, where Husker Du played a gig in 1984. My most immediate need is an address for the place, as I'll be in Detroit next weekend and would like to photograph the exterior of the building (if it's still standing). I'm also interested, however, in other info such as dates of operation, capacity, atmosphre of the place, other bands who played there, other uses of the venue, etc. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

In the mid-70s The Cass City Cinema was founded by the Murphey Bros. in Pullman Hall, one of the gathering places in the First Unitarian-Universalist church. They showed a great mix classic, recent, and art flicks. Formerly Pullman Hall had been the site of The Open City coffee house (late 60s-early 70s). It is also where Alice Coooper rehearsed prior to their record deal.

I don't know about Cass City Cinema in the 80s, or if they still used the same space, but the 1st UU and Pullman Hall are still at the corner of Cass and Forest (4605 Cass Avenue).

Thanks very much for the feedback. I shot a few photos of the location when I was in Detroit a couple of weeks ago and put them on a webpage. This board doesn't allow external links to be posted (at least I can't get it to work), but the page is at
thirdav.com/hd_discog/clubs/img_detroit_1stunitari an.html in case anyone wants to take the trouble to add the www part and remove the spurious space character.

When I was about 19 or so, we partied at the Open City Coffee House a lot! 1969 - 70. Just out of high school!
