This tribe was founded by Tim Lipinski. The original members were Tim, Carol Lipinski, Mike Strobbe, and James Knoll. The second group added Bob and Darlene Gallager, Rich and Linda (Manetz) Morris, Mike Manetz and another person whose name escapes me at the moment, while James and Mike Strobbe left. I was in the 3rd wave with Tim, Mike, Carol, Rich&Linda and Dave Grodecki (brother of the future Jill Lipinski). When Rich, Linda and I moved to Ferndale, we were replaced by the "classic" lineup with Tim Knoll, the return of James, Ralph Koziarski, and Wayne&Sally in addition to perennial members Tim Lipinski, Jill Lipinski, Carol Lipinski, Mike Manetz, and Dave Grodecki. |

I don't know HOW I could've left Maryanne or Larry Gabriel out of the "classic" lineup but I did. Sorry about that. |

Stephen, here is the info I've been able to recall regarding The 1st Universalist Unitarian tribe members. I *knew* that your start date was skewed, since I had lived there in 1974-5, but was in the 3rd wave of tribe members. IIRC, Tim founded the tribe in late 1971 or early 1972. When I talk with him again, I'll get a more accurate date. I was a bit fuzzy about the original cast but Tim has refreshed my memory. I've appended his note below. So, in roughly chronological order, here are the earliest tribe members of the UU from approx 1972 through 1979 or so: Tim Lipinski Fred Coonce Mike Strobbe Carol Lipinski James Knoll Rich Morris Linda (Manetz) Morris (Butler) Bob & Darlene Gallagher Bobby Michaelson Mike Manetz George (H) Kerby Dave Grodecki Jill Grodecki (Lipinski) Tim Knoll Marianne Knoll (James & Jasmine) Ralph Koziarski Larry Gabriel Terry Youk Sally Shemanski & Wayne Morsczyzna David Lee Ron Kopak Honorary Tribe members: Erica and Katherine Mercer --- though neither lived there, they were the only actual parishoners who were allowed into our "inner sanctum" while I was there. ================================================== From: "Lipinski, Tim" Wow. There was a clan history chart on the 3rd floor last time I was there. The first three of us were Lipinski, Strobbe and Fred Coonce. Carol arrived in September 72. Jim Knoll replaced Coonce,in summer 73 then left for school at NMU, returning after he graduated. Bobby Michaelson was there for a year when Gallaghers were. Terry Youk was there was there early on, referred by Ralph, so he must have been there when Ralph was. Wayne Morsczyzna was there with Sally Shemanski. Jim Knoll can probably remember latter members better than I, and I believe he was the one working on the chart...sure would be fun to have a copy of that. I had a dream last weekend that I was out on Cass at Prentis after dark, and someone was just turning the outdoor lights on...and presumably checking the doors, too. Looks like the L/PH reunion will be fun.

I talked with Tim Lipinski last eve (happy B-day Tim!!!). He told me that while he started working in the UU buildings (for WSU) in 1969, he and Mike Strobe moved in on JULY 4, 1972. So mark that date as the OFFICIAL founding of The First Universalist Unitarian Tribe !!!! |

Is the Tim Lipinski mentioned here the one who worked at UCSF during the 1980s. If, Dave States, who he visited in Germany, is trying to find him. Dave states@natsci.ucsc.edu |
