I remember meeting Mick, we had a lunch in the garden on 45 Colorado Street in HP, back in late 70's. He had just come back from the West Coast, and was ready for anything. Well, Mick sure cut a groove through our hearts with his soulfull lyrics, music and poetry. Death from working on a contruction site. I know we rarely get to choose the way we go, but that just wasn't right. Gonna miss you, Mick.

I remember the poetry reading at the Zietgiest Gallery for Poets Against the War and Mick was on fire, an old Testament prophet right in front of me, I will never forget the electricity coming out of him. On and on Mick, go on and on

Mick Vranich...was a diamond in a rough ass city...I loved Mick and am honored to have known him...I was only introduced to Mick maybe 7 years ago...being I was born in the corridor in 1977...Both my my mother and father died young do to the ramped abuse of heroin that blew through the city in 80s....I am a son of the corridor...when I met Mick he was like a long lost family member...few people whom I have ever met in my travels have had such a compelling influence on my life...He was an enchanting and enlightened being...His eyes were on fire with truth...A higher I.Q. than most yet his ethics had him working side by side on building projects for the love of an honest days work...I had the honor of working with this skilled man on several occasions...he despite his excellent artisan carpentry skills never shied away from the grunt work on a job...Detroit has suffered great losses...but this may be one it's greatest losses to date in my eyes...I loved Mick...He was not only a friend...and a father figure...but he was one of the greatest real life hero's in my Life..I will never forget Mick...and I will do the best I can to try and honor the life he lived..

also...I wrote this poem for Dia De Los Muertos this year and would like to deadicate it no to Mick...

Eat and Drink the Fruits of Your labor...Don't forget to share with your neighbor and relations...Make connections like constellations..illuminate your conversations...It will take much concentration...to turn these inspirations into illustrations that would honor our generations...through celebrations of life...by living life to the fullest of it's limitations...and giving our all... with respect for all god's creations...

I didn't know Mick well but he always seemed to me to be such a fine fellow, always a smile, not judgmental...my heart goes out to Sherry now.

He was my neighbor. He was a cool guy. He was a poet and a musician. He did lots of stuff for the community. He made everything better.
